Um do you mean Valentine's Day?
Nope! Galentine's Day is a fictional holiday created by Leslie Knope in a 2010 episode of Parks & Recreation. Galentine's Day is February 13 - Valentine's Day Eve - and is a day to celebrate your lady crew!
This year I am celebrating Galentine's Day and taking the opportunity to celebrate my gal pals. I want to show them they are loved, beautiful and worthy regardless of relationship status.
You may think that this sounds like an opportunity to get all your single girls together to mope and hate on all the lovers of the world and their happiness. To be honest, this is what I used to do with my best friend (at the time). When February 14 came around, we would go on a date together - usually dumplings and win - and hate all the couples around us! Haha! Looking back it was a bit silly of us to go out when all the loved up couples were out.
I challenge you to take a different perspective. Gather your closest girlfriends - single, in a relationship, married - and host a little party to celebrate them and your friendship. If you think about it, how often do you have a party to celebrate your best friends?
I've put together a few ideas to help you plan your Galentine's Day party!
Galentine's Day Party Ideas:
PJ + Pizza Party
Pyjamas and pizza - is there a better combination? Get everyone to rock up in their fave pjs and slippers. This can turn in to a sleepover if you wish! Forget the diets for tonight and get in to the pizza. Order from your fave pizza place or to make a night of it make your own pizzas! You could even make the bases in the shape of a heart. Spend the night watching movies or playing games - Never Have I Ever anyone? - or apply face masks to each other.
This would be great for a whole day celebration. You could start in the morning and binge watch your fave movies until night. It's up to you what you watch obviously but here is a great list of female films:
- Mean Girls
- Pitch Perfect
- Princess Diaries
- Legally Blonde
- The Lizzie McGuire Movie
Get everyone to bring snacks and drinks!
Spend time pamper each other. You could apply face masks to each other, do each other's nails, apply a hair mask.
You could make your own face masks with items in your kitchen. Here are some easy to do recipes:
Oats & Honey Exfoliating & Moisturising Mask
- 1/2 cup ground oats
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tbls honey
Place all ingredients in a small saucepan. Cook on medium heat until combined. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before applying to clean face. Leave on face for 15-20 minutes and then rinse with warm water.
Avocado & Banana Mask
- 1/2 avocado
- 1/2 very ripe banana
- 1 tbls coconut oil
Mash the avocado and banana first. Mix all ingredients together until combined. Leave on face for 15-20 minutes and then rinse with warm water.
Take advantage of our Share Pair combo code to buy 1 clay mask and get the 2nd mask 50% off. Simple use the code 'SHAREPAIR' at the check out. (This code only applies to our clay face masks.) Shop masks here.
If you and your bffs are more morning people then why not head to brunch! You can head out to your fave cafe or host your own brunch at home.
Delegate jobs to your friends so you aren't left doing all the hard work. Someone can make pancakes, while someone else does eggs, and another does coffee or mimosas.
Galentine's Day Gift Ideas:
Why not gift your gals a little something to let them know they're loved. You could provide something small or even a little goodie bag in correlation with your party theme.
PJ Party - slippers or fluffy socks, sleeping eye mask
Pamper Party - nail polish, cosmetic head band to use when applying face masks, face mask brush/applicator
Breakfast Bash - personalised champagne flutes
For something cute but inexpensive you could write a little love note to each girl telling them why they are so special to you and your life.
